When he first came into the picture, Fai was someone who appeared to be a happy go lucky kind of guy, who was always smiling, always seemingly happy to the general annoyance of one of the travelling companions that he went around with. Though when he first met Kurogane, he never really called him by his actual name. Instead nicknames were created as he liked the reaction he got off the other man when he did call him by the nicknames instead of the real one.
With this happy go lucky side, it may seem like he is an idiot, but in fact he is very good at being able to observe someone and is able to determine if someone has had fighting experience in the past previously just by watching them fight, or at least if they had some type of training before. Though he rarely will show it himself, he is a very skilled fighter when it is necessary, but usually he gets someone else to fight or finds some way out of it and when he does fight, he would just not try very hard to fight for his own life unless there is someone he is close in danger, then he would get more involved. Although later and after some character development he has learned to appreciate himself a tiny bit.
Fai doesn't want to get close to anyone, so he uses the act as his way of not creating a bond between him and the person he is talking to or hanging around with because he doesn't want them to get hurt. This reasoning is because of his past and being known in his world as a twin of misfortune and that bad stuff would tend to happen because he was simply born a twin. Fai during his travels had not realized when he made that bond until someone pointed it out to him. So with him trying to avoid making a bond, he in fact ends up doing what he didn't want.
Fai may act silly, but he can have his mature side when talking about things, or generally when it is needed in one way or another, especially when talking about things that are serious or when a subject is brought up about himself.
When he was turned into a vampire after getting his eye ripped out, he started to become colder and more distant to most of his travelling mates, except for Sakura who he served like a loyal servant saying that he would do anything for her. He even started to call Kurogane by his name because he wanted to break the bond that he himself had made in the first place between them. This goes with the side of him that hides behind his smiles.
Fai does have a way with his words and actions in that he does express strong emotion, as he has shown on a couple of occasions when he has hit Kurogane when he was angry or annoyed, but usually this would not happen often. Fai may not want to or at least use to not want to, but he can get attached to people and then worry about their safety compared to his own. Officially from the before the point I have taken him from, he has shown now to generally care for his comrades and even helped them in the final battle.
Lastly by the end or the point he was taken from, Fai has started to instead of faking his actions and acting like he did originally, he is now generally starting to show that personality and is starting to be able to smile for real, instead of faking it like he used to. He also is starting to become more helpful and willingly helping the others since he now has no home to go to any more.
With Clone!Sakura, at the start of the journey he treated her, much like he did with Clone!Syaoran and that he treated them much like a mother would treat their children, worrying about them and generally being caring. By Tokyo Arc and when the clone of Syaoran had taken his eye and left him for dead, this caused Fai to become much more closer to Sakura, and far more distant to the other travelling companions. The reason for this was because they were both suffering; Fai for having to live in this way; a way he didn't even ask for, more forced upon by Kurogane and Sakura with Syaoran leaving her to go and collect the feathers by himself, not taking her with him like she had wanted, but also because she had realized who she really was. Fai of course knew of Sakura's plans when they were in Infinity, but he never asked for more information about why. But during that time he agreed that he would help her like a loyal servant would to a princess, showing that through suffering they could understand each other more than the others.
With his brother, Fai was very close to him because all they really had in that world was each other since others thought of them as cursed and the cause of a lot of misfortune. So Fai was close to his brother, even when they were told that one should kill the other, they didn't. Instead they held hands and ended up being taken to the tower for what should have been forever. When Fai was worried for Yuui, the same could be said for Yuui to Fai as shown when he would go as far as to use dead people's bodies to try and climb up.
Fai had been affected more than his brother, especially when the King killed himself in front of him, this was the start of the whole thing as seeing him down there, the way he was, that's not what his brother wanted. Fai's motives started the moment his brother died and was told that he could bring him back again if he did what the man wanted. This gave Fai a drive to want to live for now, for the moment his brother could possibly come back, although at the same time his way of thinking shows that he really doesn't try and live his life like he should, because of his brother and his past. Overall because of his past and the way Fai had been treated by others, especially with the death of his brother had caused Fai to actually believe that if people do get close to him, that bad things will happen. This was sunk in more when Ashura ended up killing the people of Celes and he blamed himself for what happened.
At the beginning Fai used his happy demeanour to annoy Kurogane, mainly because he loved to get a reaction out of him, but from time to time Fai would show a different side whenever Kurogane would bring up a subject he didn't want to talk about. It was one that was more serious and he would drop the act, if only for a brief moment before reverting back to his act. It has been noted that Kurogane was the only one who could see behind the fake smiles and the act, which was something that Fai didn't want anyone else to see at all, but he still rather enjoyed annoying the poor man.
When Fai had lost his eye, he had been ready to accept death, knowing that if he did the magic in his eye would go from the clone, but because of Kurogane making his wish and thus turning him into a vampire, Fai resented him for that. This also caused Fai to cut the bond that had been created. Fai had realized he'd crossed that line and became distant, even calling him by his real name to try and break it. Although after the Celes Arc and when they ended up in Nihon, Fai had learn to not throw away his life so easily, something he had learned from Kurogane. From that point on Fai had shown to actually start up with his old personality and reverted back to the nicknames once again, thus the bond they had before seemingly had returned.
Fai's fake personality was really created when Ashura had taken him in and taught him something; that if you smile, even when you don't feel like it, it makes others feel better in a sense that a smile shows you're okay. Fai from then on would always put on a smile, fake it, to hide how he really was feeling underneath it all and no one really noticed the difference. Fai dwells on his past and that's what really makes him do what he does during the journey with the others and from his canon point currently. Although his attitude to keeping his distance from the others is questionable and was brought up by Kurogane.

Fai had lost count of the number of worlds they have travelled since the adventure ended and he choose to continue on for a friend. But he knew his reasons for making his choice and he didn't regret them one bit. So even with arriving at such a strange place without any of the friends he had been travelling with, he simply assumed that either they were separated like it could happen, or something interfered.
Holding a glass in his hand he looked out the window of his new home for the time being. "It's quite an interesting place. Pretty large with some attractions and seemingly monsters outside the city. Yet... How could a world not notice what trouble there is." He said to himself as he put the drink to his lips. He knew there was a problem and the fact of the matter was they had been brought here for that reason, but not knowing the details... there was always someone who knew.
Taking a sip of his drink he thought over what to do next. But honestly, he figured now wasn't the time for such things. Right now he had other things that he wanted to do. Like drink this delicious tasting alcohol and then go tend to those weird bird like creatures that he had to admit were huge. So with a cheerful like smile he placed his glass down and stood up to stretch.
"Ah, I'm pretty sure that Big Yellow would want to be fed right now, so I should go do that." He said moving his arms to behind his head as he finally gets moving. That brd would get angry if he was any more late than he already was.

I've found my moogle to have a taste for alcohol and he is now drink flying. He's bumping in to walls here and there and I have little to no idea what to do.
If the big dog himself reads this... Please bring back some alcohol. The moogles seem to have a taste for it so I find it disappears very fast. But I will make sure they won't get to it this time.
